Ardantane Lughnassad Celebration

August 2, 2019 @ 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Lughnassad is named for Lugh, the Irish god of the sun and harvest, and a master of all skills: warrior, bard, healer, you name it. The ancient Tailltean Games were celebrated in honor of his mother, and included games of skill, horse races, poetry contests, and feasting; they were a kind of hybrid of athletic competition and county fairs.

So if you have Celtic heritage, OR love baking and baked goods, OR just want to enjoy a fun evening of song and story, you may wish to come and lift a glass of your favorite beverage to Lugh.  Participants are invited to arrive at the Ardantane dome at 6:00 pm or so, and the ritual will begin at 6:30. You need no experience in ritual to participate, nor do you have to endorse any particular religious beliefs.

Wear warm and colorful clothing—whatever feels festive. If you want to wear a robe, or an unusual hat, or amazing jewelry, or even dress up as a corn dolly or Celtic sun god, go for it. Bring a dish or beverage to share at the potluck feast afterward. Special breads, cakes, cookies, or grain dishes are especially appropriate to the season–although participants would doubtless love your vegetables, protein dishes, salads, and beverages as well.

There is no charge for sabbat celebrations at Ardantane, although donations are always welcome. These events are family-friendly.

In an effort to reduce Ardantane’s environmental impact, we ask that if you can, please bring your own feast gear: plate, bowl, cup, and flatware. This will reduce a lot of paper waste! Thank you!

If you need directions to Ardantane or have questions about the program, call Amber at (505) 469-7777.
