February 3, 2007 (Sunday)
Imbolc (Candlemas) Sabbat, 6 PM
Imbolc is a time of new beginnings and initiations. It is sacred to the goddess Brigid. Common themes of this sabbat are renewing commitments and focusing on goals, recognizing the natural cycles of nature with the birth of the lambs, dedication or rededication to a spiritual path or purpose, dedication of ritual tools, and performing all types of cleansing, from you house to your inner self. Many Imbolc rituals feature the goddess Brigid, who was a triple goddes of healing, smithcraft, and poety. A potluck feast will follow the ritual.

Ostara (Spring Equinox) Sabbat, 6:45 AM (dawn)
We assemble at dawn and face the east to drum up the sun and welcome the spring. Dress warmly in layers, bring your drums and rattles, and get ready to have a very good time coaxing the first rays of light up over the clouds. At the time of the equinox, with day and night balanced, we focus on creating our own balance. The ritual is followed by a potluck breakfast nearby.

Beltane (May Day) Sabbat, 2 PM
Our Lady of the Woods will celebrate Beltane with a ritual, feast, and May pole dance. The Beltane sabbat marks the beginning of the summer for the Celts. For many England towns, the May pole remained stationed at the town center, becoming a gathering place for the whole season, which was a sort of on-going block party. We hope to recreate some of those good times at this celebration. The pot luck feast will give way to songs, dance, and stories. Dress festively and bring drums and musical instruments.

Litha (Summer Solstice) Sabbat, 2 PM
Summer Solstice brings us to the longest number of daylight hours in the year. Now, when the light is brightest, it is difficult to imagine that it will wane. In these care-free days we play, watch the crops grow, and honor the great sun gods and goddesses. A pot luck feast will be shared after the ritual.

Lughnassad (Lammas) Sabbat, 2 PM
Lughnassad is the first harvest of the Wiccan year, the grain harvest. This sabbat is sacred to the god Lugh, the many-skilled Celtic hero, but all agricultural peoples have celebrated a grain harvest in their own ways. Summer games of skill and craft are often played at this time, bringing together the folk of the land to feast, boast, and roast. Grain dishes featuring corn, chilis, and other local crops will be plentiful at this pot luck feast.

Mabon (Autumn Equinox) Sabbat, 2 PM
The second harvest of the Wiccan year is a harvest of fruits, though in the northern regions of New Mexico, we very much associate this time of year with apples and chili. This sabbat has often been called the "Witches Thanksgiving." Bring something to share at the pot luck feast and enjoy a fine afternoon with friends.

Samhain Sabbat, 6 PM
Like Beltane, the winter sabbat of Samhain has been marked and celebrated by many cultures. It is the final harvest of the year, the animal harvest. It is the gateway to the coming winter. With the harvests completed, the community draws together one final time to share. Today, we associate the Samhain sabbat with our loved ones who have passed on to Summerland. We devote a space to them at our table, bringing their favorite food or drink. On this evening, when the veil between the worlds is thin, we rely on our inner sight to divine our future. The ritual will be followed by a pot luck feast.

Yule (Winter Solstice) Sabbat, 6 PM
The light returns! The new sun king is reborn! The Holly King gives way to the Oak King and we rejoice. Yule is one of the oldest festivals, celebrating the pivotal point at which daylight begins to wax. It is a time of hope and gathering, a time to celebrate our humanity, compassion, and kindness, to offer our good cheer to all. And, perhaps to visit with some unique characters like Mother Berchta. The ritual will be followed by a fine pot luck feast.
